HISTORY OF THE MONUMENT

THE STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND MONUMENT WAS BUILT IN 2007 TO HONOR THE MEN & WOMEN WHO SERVED AT CARSWELL AIR FORCE BASE AND THE STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND. B-36 PEACEMAKER MUSEUM IS THE CUSTODIAN OF THIS MONUMENT.  THE 15-MEGATON BOMB IS THE LARGEST NUCLEAR BOMB BUILT AND THE B-36 BOMBER WAS THE ONLY AIRCRAFT THAT COULD CARRY IT. IT WAS 25 FEET LONG AND WEIGHED 42,000 POUNDS. THE B-36 BOMBER COULD CARRY TWO OF THEM. NO GOVERNMENT MONEY OR PERSONNEL WERE USED IN THE MAKING OF THIS MONUMENT.
